We understand the unique needs of the home school
environment. So we designed the Life Skills Driving
Instruction home school driver’s education
curriculum to provide you with everything you need
to teach your student to drive. In addition to
moving your student to the goal of earning his or
her driver’s license, our home school driver’s
education options help develop life-long safe
driving habits and to encourage great communication
between you and your teen.
Our curriculum is an approved home school
curriculum, designed in accordance with the
regulations set forth by the State of Minnesota. You
may use our curriculum materials to teach driver
education to each of the home schooled students in
your immediate family. You may want to purchase a
new Student Handbook for each child as the Student
Handbook will include any changes that have been
made to state law.
We offer families two home school driver’s education
options: Option 1: Complete the 30 hours of classroom
instruction in your home school Option 2: Enroll your teen to a traditional
classroom setting to complete the 30-hour classroom
instruction

If you choose Option 1, you will need to fulfill
these requirements:
Purchase a Minnesota state-approved curriculum
Complete the curriculum via 30 hours of home school
instruction.
Obtain a letter, like this (click
for sample) from your school district’s
superintendent stating that you are a full-time
home school family
Compose your own letter (click
for sample) stating that you have completed the
driver training curriculum and
indicate which curriculum you used
Send both letters to the Minnesota Department of
Public Safety and request a reply letter to certify
the completion of
the curriculum
Present the letter you receive from the Minnesota
Department of Public Safety to a driving school and
enroll your teen
in behind-the-wheel training
The driving school will issue your teen a Blue Card
which he or she will take to the exam station, along
with two forms
of approved identification, to get his or her permit
